On May 18th, the Friends of the Ocean City Pops held their 2nd annual Esther C, Weil music competition at the Music Pier for local high school students, awarding cash prizes to the winners. Eighteen talented young people participated and the prize winners were:

INSTRUMENTALS

1st Prize: Pianist Alexander Bui, Egg Harbor Township High School

2nd Prize: Tyler Sarfert, Oakcrest High School, marima player

3rd Prize: Daisy Greenwell, trombonist from Buena Regional High School

4th Prize: Guitarist Carlos Bedoya from Egg Harbor Township High School

VOCALS

1st Prize: Amanda Leonette from Ocean City High School

2nd Prize: Carley DelSordo from Ocean City High School

3rd Prize: Matthew Caulfield from Ocean City High School

4th Prize: Kristina Sakhan from Buena Regional High School

Judges for the competition were Nancy Fox of Fox Vocal Arts in Ocean City, Olga Konopelsky, Concertmaster of the Ocean City Pops Orchestra and Bill Scheible, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Ocean City Pops

On Wednesday, August 31, 2011 From the Top radio broadcasting was taped at the Music Pier stage. The best young talented students in the country performed with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra.

The Pops Concert on Sept. 14^th will begin at 7:30 pm and will feature singer soloists Chloe Moore and Marcus Beam. Featured composers will include Johann Strauss, Jr & Sr, Lehar, Saint-Saens, Offenbach and Chopin.  Also, various musicians from within the orchestra will be featured with solos by Steve Heitzer, trumpet and Patricia Daniels cellist. 

   The performance is in memory of Frank Ruggieri, former conductor of the orchestra.  

Attendees are invited to attend a post-concert reception, to be held in the rear of the Music Pier, sponsored by Frank and Kay Manco (Mack and Manco Pizza).

Kameron is a recent graduate of Ocean City High School. He began his studies in music privately with Robert Snodgrass in Ocean City, New Jersey. During high school, Kameron's enthusiasm for music became stronger, thanks to the help of Ms. Leah Getz and Mrs. Donna Schwartz. Because of their extreme dedication to the music within the High School, Kameron became inspired to become a teacher as well and provide the same feeling for his students one day. Kameron will be attending the University of Delaware in the fall where he will study classical voice with Dr. Blake Smith and major in Music Education. Kameron would like to thank his elementary school music teacher for the opportunity to begin his studies in music at such a young age. Furthermore, he would like to thank the OC Pops for their generous donation and his parents for their undying support throughout the years
